It’s here and there’s nothing we can do about it. I’m talking about WINTER. That time where daylight needs saving, and so does our skin. If it were up to me, my winter beauty regime would consist solely of upping sticks and relocating to The Bahamas until it was all over, but seeing as that isn’t an option, here are the things that I use to keep my skin looking and feeling as fresh as a spring day.
You will notice there is a theme running through these – and that theme is MOISTURISE! I can’t stress this enough. You need to keep slapping on the creams otherwise your face will shrivel up, your lips will fall off and your legs will look like a reptile. Seriously. OK, your lips may not actually fall off, but they will get chapped and sore and you will wish to God you had slapped on some salve. It’s not too late to save them!
I’ve included a price list and a link to websites where you can buy these – so you don’t even have to leave the house and brave the elements…
Two-in-One makeup bag, £20, Donna Clitheroe
A really useful bag that can fit everything you need, and then spreads out so you can actually see what you are looking for. Genius.
Sanctuary Spa Mande Lular Body Souffle, £12.50, Boots
This is a lighter formula than most lotions and body butters, and is good place to start if you are loathe to slapping on a cream after stepping out the shower. I get it; it’s cold, you’re damp and you just want to get dressed and on with your day. But it is worth doing! And this cream slides on and dries quickly – in the time it takes me to brush my teeth, it’s absorbed and I’m good to go.
BetterYou Dlux 3000 Vitamin D Oral Spray, £7.99, Holland & Barrett
Lack of sunlight can lead to a vitamin D deficiency, which not only makes you feel awful, but it can make your skin look tired and washed out too. A few pumps a day will keep the winter slump away.
Hydrating Skin Oil, £52, Saira Skin
This oil smells beautiful, and you only need a few drops of this organic, replenishing product smoothed over your skin at night for a fully hydrated face in the morning. It’s perfect for sensitive skin too, or a face that has been exposed to the harsh elements – it calms and soothes.
Illuminating Even Skin Tone, £80, Harley Street Skin
A little bit goes a long way with this magical concoction. Smooth on under your moisturiser and over time it really does give you a more even skin tone – I don’t know how, it just does.
Miracle Effect Serum, £68, Studio 10
Perfect for popping on under tinted moisturiser or foundation to give the skin a quick smooth and tighten – and who doesn’t love a bit of that?
Brightening Youth Glow, £38.50, Charlotte Tilbury
Getting that ‘dewy’ look is difficult – as a teen it meant ‘greasy’, but now I’d give anything to have that shine! A little bit of this across your T-zone is enough to make your skin look bright and fresh.
Harmonious Hand Restoring Cream, £1.75, Champneys
Hand cream at this time of year is an absolute MUST-HAVE. The cold plays havoc with your hands, and mine always end up cracked and dry, with spilt nails if I don’t take care of them.
Vaseline Lip Therapy, £1.95, Superdrug
I never leave home without lip salve. NEVER. For me this is an all-year-round thing, but especially once the temperature drops and my lips get chapped. I have possibly hundreds of lip salves dotted around, and these are just a couple of examples.
