To be completely honest, these 2 cocktails are pretty amazing no matter what time of year it is! But, as it is Christmas, they are now This Girl Is On Fire’s favourite Christmas cocktails. So what are they and what's so special about them?
Well, Andrea's is to do with where she grew up and her happy memories of Trinidad. Her cocktail of choice is her dad’s Rum Punch and it's really easy to make.
Nick’s favourite cocktail comes from his love of coffee (he LOVES coffee) and also his love of vodka, so it's no surprise that his favourite festive cocktail is an Espresso Martini. It was also the first cocktail Andrea and Nick had on their blind date, so it’s always the drink of choice on date night!
Andrea’s Rum Punch
1 x sour - lime juice (freshly squeezed)
2 x sweet - sugar syrup
3 x strong - Dark Rum
4 x weak - plenty of Ice
Dash of Angostura Bitters
Put all the above into a glass, add some glacé cherries and a sprinkle of nutmeg to taste. Give it a stir, sit back and enjoy the Caribbean warmth.
All the measures above are 25ml but can easily scaled up depending on how many you are making and how strong you like it - and these are STRONG. We always have a punch bowl full of Rum Punch when we have a party - even on Christmas Day.
Nick’s Espresso Martini
1 x expresso (hot)
1 x 50ml Vodka
1 x 50ml Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
1 x small squeeze Agave syrup - depending on how sweet you like it
Put all the above into the shaker with the ice and shake vigorously.
Tip: To make the perfect Espresso Martini put the hot espresso shot in first over the ice before adding the other ingredients - this will help give the perfect head to your finished cocktail. When you have finished shaking, pour into a martini glass and garnish with either crushed coffee granules (for real coffee heads) or some chocolate powder.
We love serving these at our house parties when our guests first arrive.
Warning: Too many of these and your guests will never leave… they’re too awake :)
