You Need This Now!

There’s often one thing that defines a fashion season and this spring it’s undoubtedly the trouser suit. Spawned on the runways at Gucci and Dior this versatile trend has found it’s way into the shops. Still androgynous, this season’s suits have shaken off their corporate reputation, you can still look the business but there’s not a pinstripe in sight. This new tailoring balances masculine shapes with the most sugary pastel shades as styles take their inspiration more from the cake shop than they do from the boardroom. If you’re going to invest in one thing right now then the pastel suit is the one that fits.

With a reputation as girly or ageing these sugared almond shades would normally have most of us running in the opposite direction but trust me, styled simply these suits are wearable and stylish and will take us through spring way into summer.
If you want to keep these pastels chic then I think they look best teamed with simple neutral separates. Trainers and a T shirt are the look of the moment but swap for a camisole and heels and you’ll have the perfect look for a night out...dare I even say it, a ‘sexy’ evening look!

White, black and navy keep these girly colours grounded but my absolute favourite partner has to be beige or nude and for this spring there are lots of earthy brown shades that work so well with pastels...there’s nothing sweet about these!

Versatility is always a winner - not only will a suit see you through from day to night, worn as separates you’ll get double the value. Pale trousers will look great for a summer work look with a simple vest top and sandals and the jacket doubles as a summer cover up thrown over the shoulders with a pretty dress.

There are styles to suit every shape as well, tailoring is the savour of shapeless folk everywhere, I know I’m one of them, if you’re lacking in curves good tailoring will give your figure structure and shape. If you’ve got curves then you want to show them off, look out for a belted jacket so you can cinch in the waist. When it comes to trousers there are wide palazzo styles which always work well for summer to shapely and flattering cigarette pants, it’s worth shopping around for the best cut style for you.

I want to show you my pick of the trousers suits and the easy swaps to style this tailoring for every occasion and check out my ‘Splash out or Save’ picks to suit any budget.
