This is what my daughter Amy calls my mum’s soup; she loves it! My granny used to make this for me when I was a child, and it makes me so happy to think that it’s been passed down through the women in our family. It is perfect if you are feeling under the weather, recovering from an operation or illness, or just want to stock up on hearty goodness. The lentils and barley are so good for you it’s ridiculous! Getting the recipe from my mum was tricky as she’s been making it so long she doesn’t measure anything, so this is a guide rather than a definitive recipe.
