So, they’ve survived three weeks in the jungle. They’ve eaten everything from eyeballs to anuses and been covered in a billion bugs, but there could be only one winner. Right from the start Harry Rednap has been an absolute legend, and the whole country, ourselves included, have fallen completely in love with him. At 71 years old, he is one of the oldest ever winners, and confessed he’d never even watched the show before he entered the jungle and was slightly worried when he met everyone that they wouldn’t have anything in common with him. Speaking on the show after he was announced the winner, Harry said: “I thought it was going to be a hard couple of weeks, but they have just dragged me through, every one of them. They are the most lovely people I’ve ever met. In the whole group there wasn’t one person I could say one bad thing about. Without them I never would have survived.” He has laughed, cried and spoken so tenderly about Sandra, his wife of 54 years that he has moved campmates young enough to be his grandchildren to tears. Harry has shown us that we may think that we are a youth and beauty-obsessed nation, but at our hearts we’re not – good men are ageless, timeless. Good on yer Harry!
