If you’re into keeping fit, you’ve probably chugged down the odd protein shake. However, scientists are now saying that these supposedly healthy shakes, which are meant to help build muscle, could actually be harming your healthy intentions.
Scientists from the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre discovered that too many protein shakes and snacks can not only reduce our lifespan, but also make us moodier and lead to you actually putting on weight! This is because shakes are full of branch-chain amino acids and in tests, scientists found that mice fed these, put on weight and died earlier.
So if you’re after a post-workout protein boost, you’re better off reaching for chicken, some eggs or even a good old-fashioned glass of milk. Not only will it mean you won’t put on the pounds, but it also save you a few pounds – and pennies – as well!
